How to Care for Your Soy Candles & Wax Melts

At Coastalfunk, every candle and wax melt is handcrafted with love right here on the Capricorn Coast. To get the most out of your handmade soy products, a little care goes a long way.

🕯️ First Burn is Everything

Always allow your soy candle to burn until the entire surface has melted to the edges on the first use. This prevents "tunnelling" and ensures an even burn every time. For most of our candles, this takes 2–3 hours.

✂️ Trim Your Wick

Before each burn, trim your wick to approximately 5mm. This keeps the flame at the right height, reduces soot, and extends the life of your candle. A wick trimmer or small scissors work perfectly.

⏱️ Burn Time

Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Allow it to cool and solidify completely before relighting. This protects the integrity of the soy wax and maximises scent throw.

🌬️ Keep Away from Drafts

Soy candles burn best in a still environment. Drafts can cause uneven burning, flickering, and excess soot. Keep your candle away from fans, open windows, and air conditioning vents.

🫧 Wax Melt Care

For our wax melts, use a quality electric or tea light warmer. Replace the wax once the scent has faded — usually after 8–12 hours of use. Never add water to your warmer, and always allow the wax to cool before handling.

🌿 Why Soy?

Our candles and melts are made with premium soy wax, which burns cleaner and longer than paraffin. Soy is a natural, renewable resource — better for you and better for the environment.
